Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera, hand-held images. Day 4 of my "Butterfly week". Although I am not 100% positive about which Crescent Butterfly this is, I am pretty sure it is a Pearl Crescent. I originally thought it was a Checkerspot and that is what I titled it when I first edited it. I forgot to change that when I posted this image, lol. I took these shots last November. Kingdom Animalia (Animals) Phylum Arthropoda (Arthropods) Class Insecta (Insects) Order Lepidoptera (Butterflies and Moths) Superfamily Papilionoidea (Butterflies) Family Nymphalidae (Brushfooted Butterflies) Subfamily Nymphalinae (Crescents, Checkerspots, Anglewings, etc.) Genus Phyciodes Species tharos (Pearl Crescent) Wingspan: 3.5 cm. Larval food plant: Asters. They are very common in the Eastern US. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. BTW, for those who have asked, I have started matting my images for the upcoming exhibition at the Regional Arts Council Art center. All the images have been selected and printed. I am also working on a printed Calendar and some digital ones as well. Lee

First off thanks for the update, with any luck I might be able to claim 'I knew that chap before he was famous' #;0) Here's hoping, I sincerely hope you do well, I can't see any reason you won't. Excellent couple of capture of this beautiful butterfly Lee, I see another little critter crawling about underneath as well. I can't quite make out what it is but its antenna are showing very clear. Superb work and presentation, will you be doing cards with information on for the exhibition? I have noticed this very nice touch you are giving your images now, with all the factual information. Bravo!!!!!
