Description

Another new squirrel on the block, there are now three black squirrels..the big one I posted before and two 'babies'. This one came up on the porch where I was sitting and inspected the strawberries and potted plants, then just sat a minute looking at me. It was like he was trying to decide whether to come closer, go in the kitchen or just wait to see if I offered something. He decided to leave when a gray squirrel started up behind him. Info below is from Wikipedia: Black squirrels are a melanistic (pigmentation) phase of the eastern grey squirrel. They are common in Midwestern North America and, in some places, outnumber the grey squirrels by a ratio of about ten to one. Thanks for looking and for previous comments!

Great capture Alex/Lynn. Beautiful little black fella. I had no idea of the excistance of black squirrels. I Denmark where i am from, they are only red brown.

now thats fascinating lynn as i`ve never even heard of a black squirrel yet alone seen one .i always thought there were only 2 .grey and red .excellent :o) mick
