Description

This is a preview of the scene I have set up for my first lighting experiment animation. This image is 99.99999% pure Bryce4 (no postwork except signature). The glow and blade are made of layered voulmetrics (expect a tutorial sometime in the future). Any comments you have (especially about the glow) would be greatly appreciated. And, yes, I know that the textures leave something to be desired. The image was an experiment in lighting (hence the name of the series "Lighting Experiments"). Most of the textures were selected solely on how fast they would render. NOTE: Due to some complaints about the texturing (I don't really care about the textures at this point!!! See above.), I have re-rendered the picture with some textures on the balls hanging from the ceiling. Purpose: simulate light being emitted from a lightsaber blade (using 60 point-light sources), and the glow from the blade (using volumetrics)--all within Bryce4 with no postwork Rendering Specs: Compostiion(incl. ligthing): about 10 hours Rendering: 16+ hours (had to resume, so it reset the counter, but the 320x240 one took 4:34...you can figure it out if you really want totongue.gif

Excellent looking lightsaber! Can't wait to see your tutorial. And maybe an animation too!

The handle doesn't look too bad, however... the "blade" doesn't have a lightsaber type feel... Instead, it looks like a glow stick. If you look at the way the lightsabers are in the movies, they have a slightly white(ned) core, and the glow is much denser... I would suggest you kick up the volumetrics arount the blade, and raise the self illumination on the "core" to full or about 85% - 90%. After that, you may find yourself slightly closer.

Yeah, I noticed that about the blade too actually, it's already at 100% ambience...it's the glow volumetrics...since the green glow volumetrics are between the viewer and the camera, they are tinting the white core green (like looking through a colored fog)...I'm not sure how to deal with this...any ideas, folks?

Dude....... Beautiful. One minor beef: The blade looks a bit too small (more like a light-dagger) :-). Needs a bit more length and width. Can't wait for that Anim

I didn't realize it was a light sabre but the light is very cool IMO. The back wall texture is like you say "you don't really care at the moment'. But overall it's clever. The balls give it a sado/masochistic feel for me. Like it!
