Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image. Day Two of my "miscellaneous critter" week. This was taken in May of this year. For one reason or another it did not get posted until now. I did not include any detailed info because I have no idea what kind of Bee it is, lol. It seemed to be exhibiting some odd behavior by standing on its hind legs and keeping the other four just hanging in the air. I seem to remember MrsLubner posted a Bee pic that showed something similar. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Yup, and I got another one like that tonight. Very odd. I also noticed that the wings on mine were open slightly. I've heard starvation will do this but I have more than enough here to feed a small colony unless it was kicked out of the colony and couldn't be fed. (are they fed or do they feed themself? I forget...) Mine was also dark in color, like dark, old honey. Fairly good sized one too. Like your shot. I just wish I knew what the problem was that caused this odd behavior.

Great shot, my friend. She´s an artist, I think. And she had her trainig-hour when you take this shot.

Lovely sharp shot Lee As for the Bee Haviour, you have some parasite that does enormous damage to the bees in your country. So much so that we in Australia have a thriving bee export business to the US and Europe to continuously replenish your stocks. So maybe that behaviour has something to do with the parasites or a related illness. Apparently the parasite is a huge issue because it seriously threatens bee stocks worldwide. If all bee's die then the worlds major pollinator would dissapear. Plant pollination would take a huge dive and we could all starve. So everyone should love thier bees and do whatever they can for them because they are a "Keystone" species so are way more important to us than almost everyone realises.

Very odd behavior Lee, I have never come across it before, the scenario that chaosphoto describes dosen't bare thinking about. It looks to be an odd species as well, not your normal honey/bumble bee thats for sure. Excellent macro. Bravo!!!!!

Nice macro. Be careful, it is much like these aggressive African-American hybrids. I am no expert, though. Just saw a few films about them.
