Description
The Curtiss P40 was known throughout the US military as the Warhawk. It was a mainstay of US Naval air combat forces throughout WWII (primarily in the Pacific war against the Japanese) and acquitted itself well in several theaters of operation, serving in the Air Forces of 28 countries.
The model shown here is the 'Kittyhawk' variant favored by the RAF, featuring six .50 cal. machine guns. This is the plane made famous by Claire Chenault's American Volunteer Group in China, the legendary 'Flying Tigers.'

Nice.......and true it was a great aircraft aqquited its self very well in all theaters of war............but then so did the Zero, the Kate, Val & and a host of other Japanese aircraft, all fine and worthy.......this piece is great, catches the true feeling........wonderful

Very nice job again - I see you have him coming in from the rising sun, which is exactly what they did! The P40 was already considered obsolete by the outbreak of WWII which makes its war record even more significant. My dad was a USAF pilot late 40's early 50's and he said anyone who strapped into a P40 loved it... You've got a flair for these kinds of scenes, please keep it up!
