Description

Sunset on another planet, and a large amphibian makes it's way back to the safety of a small body of water. This image came about because I wanted to see if I could create an alien landscape with vegetation unlike our own,and do it without the tree lab.I also wanted to give it more of a look found in Vue landscapes,in particular I was inspired by Craig's(faroutsider)images"Predator"and "Predator in Parallel Worlds".So... I created the alien bushes from 20 spheres rendered in a cloud volumetric. In the material lab I added an extra channel in the diffuse column, and in the material window for that channel I clicked the arrow(top right)and selected "forest" from the bump dropdown menu.By adding the material selections to various channels, and tweaking the colour to add variety,I came up with these wierd yet familiar shapes.Using the settings for base density(set high)fuzzy factor(set low) and speed at 5,and varying these settings,I arrived at what you see here.I added branches from Spacebones and a Dorpodon from Daz3D(posed in Daz Studio). All the textures are modified bryce presets, the sky and atmo are customs, and the terrains are also customized preset terrains.Sig in Photoshop,Bloom effect and framing in Photoscape3.01. Thanks for viewing and your comments, and thanks for the inspiring images Craig...this one's for you!

Neil, this is so cool! I love it all - the vegetation (thanks for the tut!), the colours, the little guy at the water's edge - fabulous! And thanks so much for the dedication... :o))

Very well presented, Neil. Especially appreciate the detailed narrative at how you achieved the look. And, that amphibian is so, well...he's cute in a special way.

Fascinating in design and unusual in appearance but this is an alien landscape so kudos to you Neil for succesfully attemping this difficult task and pushing the boundaries of Bryce. Tony.

Excellent Bryce composition, with fantastic render. I can see you've been to great extent so as to create the bushes and I admit I have never been as patient as you are to use volumetric shapes when creating clouds or vegetation on Bryce. What you've achieved here is outstanding, I am in awe...
