Description

Dr. Pepper again. I can't remember if this one is heavily cropped of not -- I'm tempted to say it wasn't. Still amazed at how unconcerned the heron was with my presence. If the light had been better and I'd been quicker on the trigger I might've caught them with a fish in their beak. Postwork: converted from color to black and white, then added sepia-toned soft light layer. There may have been some additional fiddling, I'm not sure, but that's the gist of it. Thank you all for stopping by. I have this huge card full of photos from earlier this summer that I haven't got around to uploading yet so there will be some more interesting shots in a while. EDIT: not assuming gender in herons anymore (because if you think about it, that just makes no fucking sense -- it's not like they can tell us what gender they are -- plus it's cissexist and binarist). sorry about that.

Wonderful shot; I love the ruffle down his chest that looks like it's blowing in the breeze!

I've missed a lot, but you haven't: From all I see, you've continued to peer into the world around you and given your usual stunning captures of what you see. The semi-sepia does well for this: It brings out the tonal harmonies between the heron, rocks and dark background. You show a real photographer's sense, dividing your picture into planes, with the heron right in the center of it all—almost a dividing line—and its dark head-feathers the perfect transition from the lower light-hues to the higher dark ones. The wings also carry on the line of the piece...It's an example of a photographer's eye wholly present in her image. I may not be back often as of yet, but I'll be back. This is beautiful.
