A fireman does not know what is to rest, leaves the food without finishing, an appointment without fulfilling, or a celebration without celebrating; he dawns between flames, smoke and soaked clothes; plaster of cold next to the tepidity of the motors; it lets to a loved being to help one stranger. Le Pompier est un constructeur de la vie, avec fermeté, avec espoir, avec foi, avec sécurité, avec douleur, avec pureté. C'est celui qui aide au camarade, allège sa douleur, saine ses blessures, lutte dans l'abîme du décès pour protéger la vie de d'un autre. Il souffre quand il conviendra il sèche la gorge devant la froideur avec laquelle le décès entoure à ses victimes. Il supporte la chaleur ardente dans la peau qu'il n'a pas cédée devant le danger, chaque fois qu'avec des rougis yeux et des poumons de fumée il cherche presqu'avec désespoir l'air souhaité de de ce qui est faibles d'un incendie, ou le jet puissant d'une lance qui paraîtrait se casser quand la pression sera haute. Il sait que la bataille est gagnée, quand la fraîcheur de la vapeur aspirée l'entourera dans sa blancheur dense. Convient l'immense bonheur qui lui offre Dieu en aidant à donner à lumière un boit, sauver une vie. Un pompier ne sait pas ce qui est de reposer, laisse le repas sans terminer, un rendez-vous sans accomplir, ou une festivité sans fêter ; il fait jour entre des flammes, de la fumée et des vêtements trempés ; pansement adhésif de froid avec la tiédeur des moteurs ; il laisse un à être aimé pour aider un inconnu.
