Description

Trying my hand at a more painterly effect in postwork. Unfortunately some of it is lost at this resolution but viewing full size should show some of it. Please enjoy :)

great render, but why a painterly look that always looks so fake, if you want paiterlook just paint it. plz show this render without the post. I think it will look better.

vsvry, I don't normally do a lot of postwork but there were several reasons for doing it this time. 1. It's a Frazetta inspired piece, I made 5 altogether and wanted at least one to look more like a painting than a 3D render. 2. Almost everything (except V4, her hair and staff and the flowers) is 2D, so I wanted to make it blend together so you couldn't tell which is 3d and which isn't. In doing this I needed to make the 3D look flatter and the 2D stuff look slightly raised. 3. If I had the ability to paint it this way I would ;) Although I used to paint there's no way I could hold a paintbrush that long any more (darn arthritis). 4. I like it ;) It was something new and different, for me at least. I imagine it would actually print on canvas quite well, I might do that down the track to see if it does look painted at full size (which is about 6 times bigger than this pic). Thank you for your comments :) Liz

Hi Liz - Personally, I like all styles of artwork and that includes a 'painterly look'. I think you did a fabulous job on this one - beautiful painting technique and a very creative outfit. You did a fabulous job of blending everything together and the result is very nice! Last time I checked, realistic wasn't the objective but rather the objective should be to create a 'work of art' using rendering programs like Poser, Vue or Photoshop. So this is lovely 'work of art' for me and an instant fav! Bravo!
