Welcome to my little place on Renderosity!
Since you're reading this, you would probably like to know something about me. Okay, where to start?
I was born in October 1980 in Stuttgart, Germany. Grew up, went to the kindergarten, to school, graduated and joined the armed forces for 10 months, which is kinda obligatory here... I actually wanted to study Jazz and popular music. So I spent about a year preparing for the conservatory's qualifying examination. Didn't attend, though, since I realized that it would be hard to almost impossible to make a living of it. So I looked for something else. Something more secure. So I started studying mathematics. Not my brightest idea, I have to confess...
After two semesters I exmatriculated and went for another job. At first I applied for a job in the IT sector, who didn't want me. Okay... So I wanted to be a cook. Well, at least for a few months. Then I realized that I wanted to go back to university, only into a totally different direction: American studies (and as a second major I picked Musicology). That's what I'm still doing.
The more interesting part is probably how I came to rendering. Well, there's actually not very much to say. I was always interested in digitally created landscapes, like the ones we see in movies, for example. Accidentally I stumbled about Terragen -- version 0.8x, back then. I continued to use that program for quite a while, but never with that much skill. This only improved after a little break. Unfortunately(?) that was about the same time when the tech preview of Terragen2 came out. I liked the way how things worked there, but I was a bit disappointed about the performance. Again by accident I heard about Vue and saw what it was capable of. I Just wanted to have it! It gave me the opportunity to do all the things I wanted to do, and which were hard to achieve in Terragen.
That's about it... Thanks for reading

Great image, I really like the snow aspect. Sometimes it really is grainy, either when there are large water droplets suspended or in this case it could be ice crystals and snow. graininess=snow deficit=feature :D

very fine work!

Really nice place you created here. I like the lighting a lot. Regarding the grain, it normally has two origins: the clouds or the haze/fog. If it's the clouds, this is normally solved by increasing the anti-aliasing in the render settings. If it's haze/fog, this is normally solved by increasing the quality slider in the haze/fog tab. Regarding the Ultra render settings (or any other preset settings), I would definitely not use them. I never use any of these, I always use "User settings" and adjust according to the image I'm working on. The Ultra preset is not good enough for solving the grain of many types of clouds because the anti-alias is too low. Ultra has subrays 4/28 and AA quality at 80%. For many clouds, I sometimes have to go as high as 10/30 and quality 100% to get rid of the grain. Oh, by the way, Ultra has "advanced effects settings" at 77%, which is way too much (waaaaay too much!) than what this scene would need. You're increasing render time without any visible effect in the image quality. For this image, you can safely put it at 45% or so. This document is great for understanding the render settings: http://users.tns.net/~mwalter1/Vue_Render_Settings.pdf
