Description

First I want to thank Richard for the use of his picture of the blade of one of these windmills that inspired me to stop and take pictures of them. This was the best shot I got and still was a little blurry :( I wanted to show just how big these really are. The shot was with my 3.1 Kodak that I carry around for work. I wished I had my SLR to get a closer and clearer shot,But keep in mind they were about 2 miles or better from were I was standing These massive windmills are in the Columbia Gorge in Oregon/Washington producing electric. Some people really hate that they are taking a beautiful place and making it look bad.To me they are cool because of the fact we need alternative methods for power .Not to mention that I am in awe that it does not take a lot of wind to turn the massive blades,But in the Gorge these can really get moving since it is one of the best places around that people come sail boarding and can hit almost record speed because of how powerful the wind gets here ;) Thanks for viewing and comments are always welcome This is not in the set I listed but wanted to direct you to his store :)

I agree Boo. I just heard on the news last night that some previous Texas oil man figured that if New Mexico put up and windmill farm in the northeast part of New Mexico, which is wide open plains with lots of wind, that it could supply the US with 25% of it's electricity needs. Just imagine if New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, AZ, Oregon, California, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming and Oaklahoma all did the same. We would have more than enough electricity and could even run hybrid electric/gas cars. Imagine having clean air and still having our needs met. It is so do-able. There is a small windmill farm in California that I used to drive by when I lived there. At first I did think they were ugly but when I see them now I have a whole different take on them. I see them as a way to save the planet and clean up our air. They are rather elegant I think. Thanks for sharing this image. HUGS

I think they are beautiful--there are some in Pennsylvania off the 76 and we always stop to look at them, they remind me of sailing ships for some reason. And they are really quiet!

What an amazing and interesting shot - never knew they were so huge. To me they are beautiful because they are using nature to give us what we need. Much better looking than huge electricity plants. CC

Fantastic shot showing the scale of those! Wind power is something that we are simply not taking enough advantage of. Anyone who wants to complain about how they look should go look at how parts of Kentucky or Virginia or anywhere else where they have strip mined for coal or any big - and especialy the old coal plants. Kudos!

I can sit on my back deck and see the blades on the windmill of Bevo Mill turning. Bevo is a restaurant with windmill blades on it. The blades don't seem like they would be as huge as those.
