Description

It is said that there are certain events, in every generation, that everyone remembers where they were, what they were doing and thinking when the news came across -- to name a few: the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded....and the day America was attacked and the Twin Towers fell. September 11, 2001....a date that is forever etched into the thoughts and memories of those who recall that horrific day. I remember getting a call from my ex-boyfriend that morning (who, incidentally, works for United Airlines), telling me to turn on the TV. I asked him "what channel?", when I think about his response it still chills me to the bone "It doesn't matter." I watched in numb astonishment as those beautiful towers burned and collapsed. Driving into work that morning and having all the TV's in the store tuned in to the news against the 'suggestion' of our district managers. I still have stacks of VHS tapes of news coverage from that day and days after. I remember the email I got several months later from the husband of a friend of mine, telling me that she was in Tower Two when it went down. This image was created by a friend of my Mom's at a company she worked at in Mountain View by the name of Tito Mukherjee. A modest IT worker who wanted to create an image in memory of those lost and who was cajoled (by my Mom and others) to call the local newspaper to cover the creation of an image that has been seen all over the Internet since and offered solidarity and a vision of the horror that was faced. This is scanned from the original given to my Mom by him shortly after it's creation. In memory of the lives lost on those Twin Towers, the American and United planes that were used as weapons of terror and destruction, those lost in the attack against the Pentagon and United flight 93. 09-11-01 -- We will never forget.

A beautiful tribute. I remember I had just woken up and Mom was just home from working overnight. She called me in to watch the news in a panic saying that "Someone's attacked the United States." At the moment I thought she was confused, that no one could possibly pull off something like this. I watched in horror as the Twin Towers collapsed on the news and proved how wrong I was.

Well done image. I remember driving into work listing to the radio when the DJ announced that a plane flew into the first tower. When I got to work my supervisor had a small tv in his office. And we saw the plane hit the second tower. We sat there in disbelief as the towers fell. It was a horrible day.
