Description
This is my first image uploaded to the Renderosity galleries. I started with Poser about a year ago and have worked my way into Bryce and Hexagon so far. The model of Robby the Robot was done following a fantastic tutorial at www.clydesight/brRobby. Being a beginner I would never have been able to accomplish anything like this without very detailed instructions with all the sizes, coordinates, etc. for all the elements. I learned a great deal from that tutorial and have since created the same model in Hexagon following approximately the same plans. Then took the Hexagon OBJ file into Poser to learn something about adding bones to make the model poseable. The damsel in distress is SydneyG2 with a dress modified from the Poser library. I saw Forbidden Planet when it first came out in the theatres and I must have been around twelve years old. That night after seeing the movie, I dreamed about the blasters used against the monster from the id and I felt really hot. I think I was coming down with a fever but Forbidden Planet has since been one of my favorite of the classic science fiction movies.

You saw Forbidden Planet when it premiered in 1956? Sweet! I first saw it some 22 years later, 1978, when CBS as part of its national feed would air the occasional late night movie. I knew of the film through reputation and the occasional article in various sci-fi rags like StarLog and Famous Monsters of Filmland. I had to play it stealthy as I was rooming at a relative's place while my grandmother was in the hospital. (I was 14.) Like you, it left a permanent impression upon me. You must have studied that tutorial closely as that is one of the more accurate digital Robbys I've seen. Your debut render is very much in the spirit of the famous lobby poster. I hope to see more nostalgic pieces from you! Sincerely, Bill

This is a great homage to the movie, as well as excellent modeling (even if you had to follow directions!) Forbidden Planet has always been one of my favorite sci-fi movies. Didn't see it at the theaters, but was inspired by it all the same. I will have to look up the site and try making my own Robby .. thanks!
