Stars remain sacred, secure
in their place in the Universe
unaware and uncaring
of what madness spins
around and below them
After midnight all of
the freaks hit the streets
dressed in their finest
and best, black clothes
for black shadows
and the gray of disillusionment
in secret places under
the red and spinning lights
music throbs and whirls
and inspires contortion
mind expanding sex
in every drop of sweat
A flash of tooth
red velvet black satin
parody and ecstacy
the slip of the chain
across pale skin
hatred mixes with love
and here the lines are blurred
fantasy explored through reality
but the shadows conceal
something so much more
the wizard behind the curtain
is real, is real
and death smells so sweet
the night fills with its scent
stars flash and go out
another dazzling life
flashed too brilliantly
and gone
and we are dressed so
lovingly, in our soft
cerements of the grave
and laughter so cold
