Description

I heard about an annual medieval football match in Florence, Italy so decided to take a look. It dates back to the Renaissance and is contested each year by the 4 historical quarters of Florence. Whilst the game itself is truly brutal (kicking, punching, shoulder charges, blocks and blows below the belt are all allowed) the pre-match parade is something to behold. Beginning in the Palazzo della Signoria, the finely clothed gents slowly march through the city to the Basilica of Santa Croce, where the game itself takes place. Here you'll find a handful of the marchers. If you want to learn more about the game, check the link below.(http://www.ultimateitaly.com/festival-events/calcio-storico-florentino.html)
