Description

My friend Ann, grower of flowers, is also a fabulous cook. She loves to bake, and she loves to have me taste her creations! (I protest mightily, I'll have you know, but she's a persistent sort.) This weekend she had me over so I could take pictures of her flowers, and try a recipe she'd found. Apparently she's got ahold of a book of old recipes from way back when, and this was the star of the show. You take six whole peaches and peel them, but leave the pits in. In the center of a baking dish, you put a custard cup upside down, and arrange the peaches around the cup. Then you put your batter mixture over the peaches and bake it. The second it's done, straight out of the oven, you turn the whole thing upside down onto a plate, and all the juice magically ends up in the custard cup. Since she hadn't made it before, and wasn't sure how well it was going to work, she turned it out into a fairly deep baking dish. Just in case. We didn't want molten peach juice all over her kitchen! It worked perfectly! And boy, was it good. She had made five different kinds of creme fraiche and two kinds of whipping cream, so we could test several options. (Ann is nothing if not thorough.) Yummmmmmmmmmmy!!! (This isn't the sharpest photograph I've ever taken, but it doesn't matter ... I just wanted you to see what I was doing Saturday afternoon while you were doing whatever YOU were doing! LOL!) .......... Edit note: Here's the recipe for Peach Puzzle, for those of you who wanted it! .......... Edit note 2 regarding peach pits and possible toxins: Only the seeds contain cyanide, and they're safely tucked away deep inside the pit. There isn't enough toxic material in the seeds to hurt you, anyway.

Wow! If Anne set this dish in front of me, she could persist away! No arm twisting needed at all. It looks absolutely wonderful, and since I expect you did not save a little for me, thank-you-a-big-one for the recipe! Yes, I'd LOVE to try it! By the way, photo is super!

What gorgeous color! Any idea why the pits are left in? They're so bitter, and I thought they were actually toxic. But then I know nothing about cooking...

I have bought old recipe books in garage sales and gift shops. I love trying out the forgotten dishes. This is a very interesting shot. I love the way it comes out looking.

It looks very tempting Tara, I don't think I could pass it up if it was put in front of me, especially if it was covered in a nice thick custard. You can keep your cream as I am not a lover of it, but custard is OK. Excellent mouth watering capture, would make a fantastic picture in a recipe book. Bravo!!!!!
