Description

Egret flying away from the camera results in unusual angle but one that shows off wingspread and wing warping flight techniques used by this large bird to turn and bank in the air. Picture is a little less sharp than I'd like but grace here hopefully overcomes my photo technique. I needed a telephoto with a little more reach. Photo taken in wetlands area at Montauk, New York. Sep 16, 2008 Comments always welcome. Bill Background: A large white heron, the Great Egret is found across much of the world, from southern Canada southward to Argentina, and in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. It's the largest egret in the Old World, and thus has garnered the name Great White Egret. But in the Americas, the white form of the Great Blue Heron is larger and warrants that name. In the United States, the Great Egret used to be called the American Egret but that was hardly appropriate, since the species range extends beyond America and indeed farther than other herons.

Great angle! Interesting and the info supplied is good as well. See you only used a 150mm lens too? Very good for that, must of been close! Rob.

Very good capture! The bird is so graceful.... I know what you mean about not having enough gumption in the zoom -I often have the same problem!

That is interesting perspective - I had a hard time figureing head/tail even after reading your notes. Like the look of the wings as shown here.
