Description

These little guys evoke peaceful thoughts. Thinking of a title for a photo is always fun. This title (Bird Brain) is often applied by one human to another in a not too complimentary way. However, I've been watching a lot of wetland birds during the last week. They all have a part to play. And their brains keep them going... I've seen gulls standing along the sandy beaches spaced about 100 yards (meters) apart looking like sentinels. They are on the lookout for a meal. When one flies to an offshore possibility, he is soon joined by all his fellows...then it is back to sentinel duty as before. The sandpipers run together quietly and a bit desperately in formation like you see here, hunting and pecking in the wet sand. I'd think the pickings for food would be slim at the water's edge...but it seems to be enough for them. So, if you or I are called a bird brain in the future either to our faces or behind our backs, I wouldn't worry about it. It's enough to get by and in fact prosper. Wish you were all here. Bill :-)

This is a really good observation shot of typical behavior and interaction between sea birds. I like the roll of the wave behind.

All you recent posts are great. The Secret Garden series is really nice. Sorta reminds me of the Boone Hall back gardens.. you know the place-- where we spun out into the marsh. ;-) Great work, can't wait to see the rest of the trip. Broke Wing Fighter Jock
