Description
Last one for a little while as I'm off on holiday walking in Scotland tomorrow. Back to my science fiction "recreation" mini-series (see the last two SF images in my gallery for an explanation).
This is a third image from "The Galactic Tourists", depicting the gas giant Avarance and the sport of sky surfing. The idea is to take advantage of a high density difference between two layers of the complex atmosphere to pancake metallic "boards" dropped from glass like air balloons using only a miniumum of power which should be cut completely just before attempting to bounce on the thicker cloud layer below. It's like skipping stones on water on a much, much bigger scale. The contest is to achieve the most and furthest bounces using the least fuel. Oh and one other thing... you ride inside the boards, you don't control them remotely!
At this point in the story several of the galactic tourists have met with unexpected "accidents" and sky surfing is not particularly safe...
Had fun playing with spectral atmospheres and cloud objects, tweaking the colours in all sorts of places where they shouldn't be tweaked in real physics but I managed to get the effects I was looking for. In fact, this one is probably the most similar to the original Bryce image but the clouds are considerably better! When I complete the whole series I'll probably post the originals somewhere for comparison.
