Oh, don't tell me you found these in a museum! We had this style of post box when I was a little kid. I can almost remember how the inside of the Post Office smelled, looking at this picture. Our mom used to send us to pick up the mail when I was only about four or five years old, and my brother was three. We would take a bread sack for the Postmistress to put the mail in so nothing got lost on the way home.

For a great lesson on the Chickasaws, go to http://www.tolatsga.org/chick.html I've studied a lot about them since I married into that family many years ago. Fascinating stuff. Anyway, I like this find of yours and the capture is very interesting. I used to have a similar postal box when I first married. Very secure...like a safe. Sit in the sun for awhile today. The sun has great power to heal - but watch out of allergens.

Very interesting Richard, I have never seen anything like this before, a miniature safe for your mail and combination locks on them as well. Interesting to note also one has a single combi and the other has two, I wonder what the reason for that was? Excellent capture, thanks for sharing. Bravo!!!!!

Wonderful find! Excellent, my mailbox in college was almost exactly like these. There was large L shapped room almost from the floor to about eye level of these, with small glass windows and a single dial. Great capture of a mailroom treasure.
