Flinkie (Analog) by Marcel-P

Hello everyone, today its the cat of my girlfriend, Flinkie, again. But this time the photo was made with an 25years old Nikon analog SLR, a Nikon FG-20. I used it with my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 and with a Fujifilm Neopan 400, an ASA400 BW-Film. In my opinion an original BW from an analog film looks much better than an BW made on Photoshop or so... Hope you like it, too! Have a fullsize view for full sharpness! Marcel

You're right, I think, that black and white photographs taken with analog cameras look better -- they have a crispness, and at the same time a fluidity, to them that brings out the light in a really unique way. That could certainly be said for this shot, which is understated and elegant in so many lovely ways (for example, the slight tilt is wonderful and adds to the relaxed atmosphere of the scene). However, there is a way to make black and white pictures in Photoshop that look pretty good: remove the colors from the original shot, copy/paste it to make a new identical layer, then make that layer sepia-toned, set its blending mode to "soft light", and reduce its opacity if needed. That's what I did for my heron shots and it turned out okay.
