My name is Clive, resident in Cape Town, South Africa. I am an amateur photographer who has been enjoying the medium in a more serious manner since 2003.
I took a trip to the UK armed with a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that I had inherited from my Dad.
Out of the holiday snaps, I managed to get a few that I felt were quite good, but had no idea of how I managed to get them 'right'.
Since then I have done a couple of courses in the darkroom and joined a local photographic society where I was on the committee for a while.
Hopefully I am getting it 'right' more often these days.
I have a Minolta Maxxum 7 and being tied into the lens system, the Sony A100 DSLR was my introduction to the digital world. This has recently been upgraded to the Alpha SLT-A55 and I have to admit that I have shot more digital in the last five years than film!
My daughter Kristen (Kris10) and son Sean (fotoSean) have accounts here too, in the hope that they will learn too and share my passion! Sadly they have been rather quiet of late, much like their dad...
August 2015 marks the end of my 3 years as coordinator for the Photographic section of Renderosity. What a wonderful time of my life that I thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you all for the opportunity!
Keep the smile alive,
Clive

WOW! Thanks, Clive, you just made my day! The Gripen really is a little beauty and I wonder if anybody else in Africa has them?

Haha! Cool pic. I notice they copied the little painting trick the Canadian air force came up with back in the 1980s on their F-18s. (At least I think they're the first ones to try it.) But yeah, neat detail shot!

SAAB JAS 39 Gripen (Griffon). JAS stands for Jakt-Attack-Spaning (Pursuit-Attack-Recon), and is as the name suggests a multitask warplane. Designed and manufactured in Sweden by SAAB, manufacturer of warplanes since the 1940's. While most of the worlds newest warplane designs went towards bigger, stronger and two engined SAAB decided to go the opposite way, making the Gripen small and one engined. In a war Swedens airports wouldnt have survived for long, therefore the swedish Airforce are trained to use strips of swedens roadnet to land, rearm & refuel, and take off again. This fact plus the fact Sweden was Neutral and its Airforce only ment to act in a defensive capacity a smaller, lighter plane was more feasible. Now with the Soviet Union gone and the Cold War over SAAB have taken forth a newer version of the Gripen with longer range and better offensive & defensive capabilites. In the ex-Cold War era where Military strenght isnt needed as much and where economy is the main thing a smaller, lighter plane is cheaper both in procurement and maintanence and some countries in the world have showed an interest in the JAS 39 Gripen.

Splendid capture, really difficult ;O)

dramatic shot ! i have seen Gripen pics before, but had not realised how sharp and pointy it looks.

Great shot. Well caught - not an easy subject. Harriers do much the same thing as Sweden's Air Force. They fly from unprepared forest strips and roads hidden in the countryside and indeed train in Norway for this. Mostly, they flew Ground attack in Afganistan etc though.... Brilliant shot, Rob
