Description
The giant turbines at England's largest onshore winfarm have finally begun turning. The controversial 'windmills' of the £50M(million UK Pounds) project on Scout Moor above Rochdale have already generated more than 4,000 megawatt hours of electricity. Developer Peel Energy has now turned on all 26 of the 325 feet(99.06 meters) high turbines.
The farm will now generate enough power for the average needs of 40,000 homes a year, adding 65 megawatts to the National Grid via a new sub station near Ashworth Moor reservoir.
The turbines have changed the landscape over a two mile stretch on the border of Rossendale and Rochdale and changed the face of Greater Manchester's contribution to reducing climate change
The above information came from 'The Rochdale Observer'.
Please zoom this image is large, 9 photographs have been stiched, before reducing the image it was 333mb. at first it would not save the jpeg image as there was not enough memory, I have 4gig of ram and a 650 gig hard drive plus three others smaller.
Taken today at around 14:00 hrs, the moor was packed out as they were having an open day with a bbq. I couldn't get near to the site there was well over two hundred cars parked along the road. I went away from the site to be able to get these shots, I was about half of a mile away. If you zoom you may be able to see people snaking along pathways going up to the top of the moor.
Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make.
Ronnie, I was using that device I told you about, it should be OK with a bit more practice.
Have a nice weekend.

A tour de force! I enjoyed seeing the whole length. Actually the whole of Scout Moor is visible from where I was born and grew up..road between Helmshore and Holcombe. I did see a fraction of these wind turbines when I was in H'shore a month ago and I be up there again in a couple of days. So thanks for producing this great capture. jean
