Description
It's the sneezin' season.
Probably due to their bright, golden yellow flower heads blooming in late summer, the goldenrod is often unfairly blamed for causing hay fever in humans. The pollen causing these allergy problems is mainly produced by Ragweed blooming at the same time as the goldenrod, but is wind-pollinated. Goldenrod pollen is too heavy and sticky to be blown far from the flowers, and is thus mainly pollinated by insects.

This sweet little yellow flower is the reason my doctor ordered me to move away from Ohio and move fast. I spent each summer quarentined due to a low immune system caused by hayfever so bad that the only way to survive was to sleep through the entire 3 months between school years. Inspite of the allergy, I have always found goldenrod to be one of the most spectacular of wildflowers. Love this capture!
