Description

Living quarters of the Pt. Reyes Peninsula Lighthouse staff. It was too late to descend to the Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, access ended at 16:30, but it didn't matter. The lighthouse, located the equivalent of 30 stories lower than the living quarters, was shrouded in fog but the horn could be heard. The trees visible in this picture indicate the force and direction of the wind that blows here frequently. Thanks for viewing and commenting on my recent uploads. For those of you that welcomed me back to renderosity, 'Thank You'. I just needed a break. I don't know if the fact that I had been diagnosed with prostrate cancer had anything to do with it. During my annual routine physical in March of this year it was discovered that my PSA level was elevated. After taking anti-biotics for several weeks on the assumption that it was an infection I was retested and the PSA level had climbed from 5.3 to 6.1. This required a visit to an urologist and after an initial examination he decided to take a biopsy. Two weeks later he informed me that 5 out of 12 samples were cancerous. In his words: 'The bad news is you have cancer, the good news is that you are in good shape'. Whoa, what a conflicting statement! It came as a shock. The next step was a fullbody bonescan to determine if the cancer had spread to the bones, it hadn't. This left all options for a treatment open to me. I was encouraged to visit with the surgeon and two radiologist oncologists, both internal and external radiation specialists, to be able to make an informed decision . I decided on internal radiation, 'seed implants' because it has the least potential adverse side effects. Once this decision was made I had an ultra sound, to determine if I was actually eligle for this procedure-I was. The operation was a 11/2 hr. out-patient procedure. Despite of this, I can now see what the doctor meant by 'being in good shape'. They went through my medical history with a fine comb, took an EKG, chest X-ray, and blood works. If I had been overweight, had diabetes, or any number of other ailments it could have complicated the operation. I was given 5 different medications for the post op period. Two days after the operation the catheter was taken out and the doctor told me to finish the anti-biotics. All the other medications for pain, stool softener, urinary tract irritation, and blood pressure I did not take. I will have a check-up every three months for the next two years to see if the result is what they expect-a PSA between 0.1 to 0.25. I think I was very lucky that it was detected early. A week after the operation I put myself in the car and went for a drive to get away from the heat. I drove for nearly 2,900 miles during those eight days and the pictures I will upload in the near future were taken during this trip. I was hoping that the heat would have stopped in Phoenix by the time I returned, but it was 106F on Wednesday and it has been over 100F every day since. I never felt bad before the operation, and I feel 100% since. I have resumed working out, 4 times a week in the weight room and 5 times a week 1,600m swimming. I had done that routine until the day before the surgery.

The images reveal you have been sitting. Everyone hopes they are not that transparent or that the significance of such a statemnt is uncharacteristic with art. Other images look like feet to a computer. They are below.

It sounds like you have been through the mill Sig my friend, hope you are feeling a bit better now, all you can do is think positive. I just hope I never get news like that, somebody said to me a couple of weeks ago, that I have everything that doesn't kill you, I think it was Mick actually when Alan and I met up with him in York. I am overweight, have diabetes, and any number of other ailments already so I guess I already have the complications. I guess it is hard to come to terms with it Sig, and I think I would have done the same as you did and take off for a couple of weeks. I'm glad your back and posting again, you had been missed, with Wolfgang being off RR at the same time, I thought you might have been visiting. All the very best with it, I hope the report is good in three months time. Excellent capture even if it is foggy, great information as well, I will have to look this Pt Reyes Peninsula up and check out the lighthouse from sattelite. Bravo!!!!!

Beautiful mysterious capture of the foggy point...I love the Point Reyes area, even the dairies that you drive right through to get there are scenic. I hope you got to see it with the sun shining too, it's amazing. Glad you've made it through the surgery, and my best wishes for a full recovery soon. My dad had this a few years back, and he's just fine now.

I have heard your story before and in all cases, the results were good. I had been wondering where you were off to but I also knew, you are "hooked" on this wonderful, supportive community. I love the tour you are taking us on. :-) I have not been to the Pt. Reyes lighthouse but I have enjoyed the top of the Pt. Arena lighthouse. One day, I'll have to get down to see this one though. So glad to see you back and know that you are doing well.

Such a beautiful shot! Love the fog wrapping around the building like that. So sorry to hear about your cancer scare...but then the mere mention of that word can chill most people's blood. I know it did mine when I got similar news (though they didn't add the 'good news' part with mine). I'm just so glad you're alright, and that your surgery was a success. And you are most fortunate that it was detected early. You will certainly be in my thoughts, my friend. I've been where you are (in a manner of speaking) and I understand what you're going through.

Very nice moody shot Sig. I've reas you were diagnosed with a prostate cancer. My Grandpa had the same diagnosed and is now in good shape after his treatment. His cancer is just a bad memory now. I think it will be the same for you !

A wonderful foggy shot... and what a story to go with it, oh my... I can feel with you a bit , cause I had the procedure done to me in a simlar way on the female side but so far have been lucky, it wasn't cancer, but I know what it means to sit there and wait and hope and wait... I admire you for your strenght to go through all and to keep on going and I wish you all the best from the depth of my heart.

It's a great photo of why we need lighthouses and the crews to man them. Your discourse on the prostate cancer was very informative and just might come in handy for a few of our RR members someday. I'm happy that you are on the mend!
