Starting up a engine with just the block ports and no pipes can have a serious consequence for the valves as it is shut down sucks cold air and warps them with a cackle. This looks like a small block chevy with the siamesed center ports and sparkplugs right under though the y-block was similar but a bit taller. The y-block also had a very large cast front cover with accessory drives for teh fuel pump and distributor, which I don't see here rather than the short stamped steel one of the Chevvie.
