Description

Although I'm a good cook, I purely hate it as an activity, so I don't do much of it. The other day I saw these HUGE peaches in the store, so I bought four of them to make a crisp for a friend who was coming over. Here's the recipe ... trust me ... you'll want this. The peach part: Spray a 9 x 13 Pyrex baking dish with vegetable spray. Peel four huge peaches (or six regular ones) and slice into the dish. Sprinkle with a little sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle with a little balsamic vinegar. Stir that all together. Take a picture, because those peaches are SO pretty! :) The topping: Soften 1-1/2 cubes of butter Add a heaping cup of white sugar Add a little salt, cinnamon and nutmeg Cream all that together with a fork Add a cup of flour, and mix it in Add another half cup of flour, and mix Now you need to add a little bit of flour at a time, just until it looks right. The mix should be fairly dry, but still clump together when you squeeze some in your hand. Crumble the topping over the peaches Bake at about 350 or 325 (That's F, not C!) for about 40 minutes. Remove from oven, take another picture. Eat it warm with your friend Rosemary, and make sure you send a bowl home with Rosemary so Lela can have some too. Talk to Lela on the phone and e-mail her the recipe. Invite Joanie and Alana over for after-dinner desert and give them each a bowl of crisp with a cup of tea. They might want theirs heated up in the microwave a little bit. Finish it off a bowl at a time over the next few days until it's all gone. Post the pictures on the internet. Of course you can use apples, pears, berries, rhubarb, anything you like. I made a version with pears and blue cheese one time that was a little bit of heaven on earth! (The cheese goes in with the pears, not in the topping.) Think about flavor combinations. Apples with raisins and cinnamon, or pears with nutmeg ... use your imagination! Really ... it's all about the topping anyway. Flour, sugar and butter ... the three basic food groups. What's not to like? .......... Full view smells like peaches. :)

Well, now that I've finished copying and printing this delicious looking page, I might as well express my anger at you! LOL I swear to God, that everytime I vow "No desserts this week, or this month", along comes Tara with yet another highly edible and extremely tempting photo! This has now happened on enough occasions that I am sure you can read my mind. (Same power that tells the sun what to do?) It's a super pic by the way!

Julia Childs a contributor to Renderosity? Excellent shots of the peach crisps, which look suspiciously in the top photo like sliced and basted fried potato slices. As for Rosemary, Lela, Alana and Joanie, are they for real, or just mythological participants in this exercise?

When I finish licking my screen I will get the ingredients and give it a go, I shouldn't really, its much too sweet, I will use my diabetic sugar though that should take it down a notch. Now I will have to clean my screen, it has smears all over it. Excellent captures Tara, and an exciting recipe, I like my rhubarb crumble, but I can only have a treat every few weeks or so. You have certainly got my mouth to watering just thinking about this. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
