Description

This is one of the few examples left of a Hanoverian(English) barracks. After the English had routed the Scots(Jacobites) in the battle of 1745 the Scots had to be kept subdued. It was the question of the succession to the English throne and as usual, a religious one. Yhis was the era of Bonnie Prince Charlie making his claim..unsuccessfully. The English army needed barracks and this was one of the most northerly. That's a very potted history! The setting for this ruin is dramatic and a ruin gives a sense of romance to a scene... The day we visited it was actually blowing snow - brrrr. Good location for the shot - I certainly missed this one. I suggest tho that you straighten the framing and crop out that white bar.
