Description

Much in keeping with the the image, I typed a long description, and IE ate it... :) This started out life as a yet another doodle, and became my first real "project" Sadly this is all I have, as the day after this was rendered Windows Me ate my laptop... I was able to salvage the PZ3, but depending on how it feels it either crashes poser, or it "grey screens" and nothing shows/renders. It started out as an experiment trying to make it look like she was really holding the gun, (rather than simply having a gun in her hand) and sort of developed from there. The "she" in question being the P4femadvanced by Mr X (available as "Black Canary" from 3d-cc.com) who makes a great compainion/replacement for Posette, stuffed as she is with morphs, especially if you want/like a slightly "harder" look. Once I had the gun in place I realised she needed a holster, and the only one I had was Lara's rig, (also from 3d-cc I think) but when fitted the buckle tended to dominate so I loaded the loin cloth while looking for a rope/leather belt (without a buckle :) It was while I was tweaking the straps to fit that I discovered my camera angle. Which was both good and bad, because once I dialed out I discovered a truly great pair of legs :) but also a big hole in my composition. At which point. Enter "stage right" the motobike.... You would not belive how much time I spent trying to get a "good bump" out of the saddle :P One thing lead to another and I spent ages trying to get a good "fine grain" leather on the gloves, (mostly lost in this "quick" render) then I moved onto the holster. It was while using the loin cloth as a "broad canvas" on which to test the bump that I decided to use it in full (and not the camo's I'd been thinking of untill that point) not only did it give the image a "hard" look, but I get to show off her legs too! (Bonus! :) I toyed with the idea of dropping the camera a bit, to show the boots, but it didn't look right, so I needed to find a top, and none of them really "spoke" to me until I found Nerd's SMC top, (I think) then the search was on for a decent texture, but none i could find would fit (or look right) until I came across the lace from what I think is Jim Burton's SMV Lingerie set, I tried black, but it didn't really work, so red it was :) The "frilly" underwear is also SMV's, but I used it more because the idea of going "tooled up" in a G-string made me laugh than anything else... :) I threw a few textures on her, but decided on Staale's text, (I think) more because of the freckle than other aesthetic :) At this point I wanted to see how it looked with "everything on" textures, bumps, the works. But it looked "limp" without a background, then by happy chance I came across the background from Tim Laubach's "Ruth" (also at 3d-cc :) Long a favoured "cutie" but surplus to requirements at the mo' :) The background was too small "out of the box" so I scaled and smoothed it, then added it in, and 5-10 mins later, this popped out. I intended it as a simple rough cut. I had loads of renders from multiple angles but this was my first complete image. One day later, my laptop was toast, "woe is me", etc. I know the hip's "broken" but I wanted a really radical curve to the hip, and I was planning to fix it later, I also wanted a better reflection map on the bike's crome parts, decent lighting, shadows, etc. But... However, what I would be interested in is how you think it could be improved, (not that I can...) but it'd be interesting to speculate on what "might have been" :0) The image seems to have gone "walkabout" So i uploaded it again, (13/04/2003)

honestly I think this image is great...with the exceptions of the things you mentioned such as the hip....I think I would have upped the shadow map size to close to 600 for the shadow of the loincloth on the leg (but that's personal preference...I like my shadows to be sharp)and the only other think I have odds with is that the gun seems a little...weak....dainty, delicate for the rest of the image....all in all though it's a great image....

I hadn't yet done the lighting, this is the standard poser lighting on display, ditto the shadows, but that just increases render time, someday I may sit down and try to salvage the file properly...

some smearing and blurring of the shadow edges will do a lot for them, even in this pic. came out pretty hella cool, except for those shadows. :)

I agree with Skye Wolf, the hip could be fixed in photoshop, but if you ever get the chance, render her with a bigger gun, It'll perfect the hardass look that the rest of the pic conveys. The POV is excellent!(Sorry to hear about your laptop woes, sounds like it would be worth your while to upgrade to XP, Windows ME bites ass!)keep renderin, JD
