Another rare beauty. A plane not often talked about. One of those 'forgotten gems' Thanks again, Rob

Glad you picked this relatively unknown late war fighter for your usual excellent illustration. The RAF planned to replace their SPAD squadrons with this plane and it was scheduled to serve in French and USAAC squdrons in 1919. It might not look elegant, but RAF No. 87 Squadron pilots claimed 89 victories in 7 months of service. Most RAF pilots dropped the single or twin Lewis guns to reduce weight and drag, but some 87 Squadron pilots experimented with fixed Lewis guns on the lower guns. The Dolphin was also an effective ground attack fighter and could mount a rack with four 25ibs Cooper bombs.

Excellent illustration and first class presentation. This is a new plane for me. All the better... Bill

It's amazing how these oldsters contrast with the modern machines. This looks economic to produce- as was necessary when so many WWI machines were "downed." We can barely afford to fly the current crop of jets, and as for meeting their cost! This was apparently quite an efficient war-machine, yet it looks so inoffensive.
