Description

(It's best to view this at its largest size) This was a project for my graphic design class. It had to do with typography (making art with type). I was happy with the outcome of this. The project required that you pick out a song that you like (Casting Crowns "Slow Fade") and use only a few lines from the song. There were to be no pictures in this project only different styles and sizes of fonts. But for this one I decided to use a picture anyway in the background to get the point across more thoroughly. I ask of you to please give me a critique on how I have done. Please be honest so that I may improve in the future. -James Artist: Casting Crowns Song: Slow Fade Be careful little eyes what you see It's the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings Be careful little feet where you go For it's the little feet behind you that are sure to follow It's a slow fade when you give yourself away It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray Thoughts invade, choices made, a price will be paid When you give yourself away People never crumble in a day It's a slow fade, it's a slow fade Be careful little ears what you hear When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near Be careful little lips what you say For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray It's a slow fade when you give yourself away It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray Thoughts invade, choices made, a price will be paid When you give yourself away People never crumble in a day The journey from your mind to your hands Is shorter than you're thinking Be careful if you think you stand You just might be sinking It's a slow fade when you give yourself away It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray Thoughts invade, choices made, a price will be paid When you give yourself away People never crumble in a day Daddies never crumble in a day Families never crumble in a day Oh be careful little eyes what you see Oh be careful little eyes what you see For the Father up above is looking down in love Oh be careful little eyes what you see

Really well done and quite arresting. I don't really have any serious critiques in terms of ways to improve this image, but for what it's worth, I'd probably add irregularities to the type itself. The letters, though they imply cut and paste by hand, have a somewhat digital look, which works incredibly well, but just in terms of playing around with the image and seeing how it works, I'd try to make the letters a bit less "smooth" in that digital sense. Hopefully that makes sense. All in all though, this is a superb and arresting image. Well done.

Chipka: Thanks for your input. So do you think I should add a blur to each letter or maybe even lower the opacity (transparency) of the whole font area?

This is superbly done !!! As the image loaded, one line would appear then another. Great effect. I didnt know you were studying graphic design. I used to be a graphic designer for an ad agency in San Francisco for many years. Looking forward to what you create !
