Description

another walnut shot for today...this one was fascinating to me, cause its green shell is open wide and already gone black but the nut didn't fall due to one little black fiberstring attached to it from the right side. So it looked kind of strange to see it hung up like this. My last pic showed the very fresh walnut, which are delicious to eat, as they are fresh and firm. Only the skin of the kernel is a bit bitter, so you have to peel them. Those fresh not dried walnuts eaten with a bit salt are a great delicacy and the region around Grenoble, a city in France near the southern border of Switzerland, is famous for its fresh walnuts with a rich taste. My father loves them so much, he buys about 5 kilo from those Grenoble walnuts each year and then puts them into salt water for a short time before deepfreezing them (with the shell) so he can have this delicacy throughout the year...smile Thanks for taking another peek and have a fine day...hopefully without the rain, which is pouring down here

Interesting pic. I miss fresh walnuts. In one home I had, we had a walnut tree.. I always looked forward to them. I would bake them for a few minutes though.

You have whetted my appetite now, I must see if Wikipedia has anything about Walnuts, how they are grown and how they are harvested, what do they call the place they are grown. You see what your image has done to me? #;0) I love RR for this very reason, I see an image that makes me want to follow it up, this is one of those. An intiguing capture raises questions that I must have the answers for, thanks for sharing. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!

Walnut trees are scarce here due to the cold short growth seasons. I never have seen this. We have butternut trees and the entire hull drops...the squirrels make fast work of hiding them too. Excellent captures.

Wonderful presentation for those of us that don't see this. Our black walnut doesn't perform such a magic trick, opening the nuts for us like this. The interior texture is awesome.

Wonderful shot! I've never tried them with salt, although I've had fresh ones aplenty. I must admit ... I don't like walnuts at all! But your photographs are beautiful. I won't eat one, but I'll keep looking! :)
