Description

When is the last time you tried your hand at shooting an image featuring one or more vanishing points? These shots always intrigue me. There are easy to see examples featured in Week #39 of LWITG. See Step By Step, Lift, Abandoned Tracks 2, Late Autumn 2 and When The Music's Over, just to name a few. This image is of a new fishing dock near Montauk Point, Long Island, New York. Obviously the fish weren't here this day (they had vanished...couldn't resist). But if I could reshoot this image I'd place the horizon right on the end of the dock instead of slightly above it. One vanishing point is relatively easy to find...multiple vanishing points are a little less common. Comments? Bill

Great shot! It draws me in, and makes me want to walk to the end of the pier.

Excellent image Bill, clever, the way you got the sea gulls to stay below the horizon too :) I really like these sort of views, there's more there than you first realise. Thanks Bill.

You illustrate the point well - pardon the pun. It sounds like you are formulating a future challenge here. It's a very educative topic and worth dusting off.

Very nicely done, Bill, I like how you have chosen to place the end of the dock just below the horizon. Nice perspective.

I did a drawing on perspective in college for art class. It can get pretty tricky at times. I think this is a wonderful idea.

Ya done yourself proud with this one. Outstanding. Agree with you on the lower the horizon or raise the end of dock... Wonderful piece of art without the change. Come on over, trout are running in the streams and the leaves are changing on the hills...Great Photo Ops. Skipper Broke wing fighter jock
