Description

Full-size is big!
Ladies & gentlemen, this "Abstract" is for one of the most energetic, beaming, loving & endlessly creative artists on this site: Helle (Helanker). Despite a schedule that would drive most people crazy, she bounds around the site with a joy & energy that 20 other people put-together couldn't match. If you're down, sick, have a loss, can't go on, she'll post beautiful flower-shots, watercolors, collages, macros--whatever pours out of her prodigious mind--to make your day better. She did a watercolor for me the night a friend died--it was wonderful. Helle, you're the best! A better inspiration a person couldn't have: You're a blast of a friend, you make everyone here happy as all get-out, and your support & macros & collages & all your love mean the world to everyone--not the least, me.
Mange tak, my dear friend! With love & hugs, Mark
(ps--Mange tak means "thanks so much". I was gonna write Hvor er toilettet?, but that means "where's the toilet"...I'm not too great at Danish...) (pps--the second map is the first, processed. And I have no idea what the title means: It came to me in a dream...)

OHH MY! How shall I find words here. I have been looking at this severel times, but I couldnt find a way to give the proper comment it deserves. Mark you are way too generous. I just dont deserve your beautiful song of words, but they touch me more than I can say. I just love your map art and you know it. It is odd, it is amazingly beautiful, surprising. (just look at the "rod" it is so fantastic?). Never seen any art like this. Every time I see your map artwork, I loose my jaw and I can just sit there and look and look. I love the way it melts to tiny grains. Thank you ever so much, dear mark.

On the right side I see what might be the World Tree. Then a little Tree Man with (flame?) spurting from his head.Geological theme, symbolic of layers of consciousness? Powerful abstraction,Mark.

It is fabulous! What a perfect image for Helle, too. I LOVE the title - it is very clever. I go back and forth between the two and it is like comparing the ancient primal map to an infrared, futuristic image. Another timeless message from you. Simply uncanny.

An abstract title for an abstract work perhaps? I don't see these as going together, they're both interesting and compelling visions in their own rights. Personally I prefer the top one, sense of the hand at work is so much greater, delicate lines for light thoughts. I spent some time one summer doing survey work, making contour maps of an archaeology site, tying it into the existing bench marks and such. These works, especially this one with the odd little figure brought that back, petroglyphs and topography. Cool stuff Mark.
