Description

In time, Kruger emerged as a leader. He started as a field cornet in the commandos, eventually becoming Commandant-General of the South African Republic. He was appointed member of a commission of the Volksraad, the republican parliament that was to draw up a constitution. People began to take notice of the young man and he played a prominent part in ending the quarrel between the Transvaal leader, Stephanus Schoeman, and M.W. Pretorius. He was present at the Sand River Convention in 1852. The First Boer War, also known as the "First War of Independence", started in 1880, and the British forces were defeated in the decisive battle at Majuba in 1881. Once again, Kruger played an important role in the negotiations with the British, which led to the restoration of the Transvaal's independence under British suzerainty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Kruger A Krugerrand is a South African gold coin, first minted in 1967 in order to help market South African gold. The coins have legal tender status in South Africa but are not actually intended to be used as currency, which is a reason it is regarded as being one of the world's medal-coins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krugerrand So I am sharing some history of my land and part of the story of the Boer war. Yes I am a farm girl and proud of it. Enjoy and thank you for stopping by my gallery. Hugs (Image was created using various of my photos blended.)

I don't know if this place really exists or is itself a composite but I hope that it does. This is such a beautiful piece of work Antoinette and I love the history that you provide with it. So gorgeous, I love this series of works.

Thank you for the mini history lesson, the bust appears to be done grecian style though I could be wrong. Is this an actual location or something you created? Either way it portrays that bit of history well.

Wonderful 2D illustration, and love the historical perspective. You should never feel bad for being a farm girl - every one I knew was the absolute model of practicality and common sense. You seem to be all of that, and quite an impressive artist to boot!

Beautiful image! And facinating information! As a nusmismatist, I've always found the Krugerrand to be one of the more beautiful gold coins out there ;-). Great work!
