We ask this everyday when we create our art. Everyone has it's own idea of art.
Here is the meaning of art.
Just ask Leo Tolstoy:
1. In order correctly to define art, it is necessary, first of all, to cease to consider it as a means to pleasure and to consider it as one of the conditions of human life.
2. Every work of art causes the receiver to enter into a certain kind of relationship both with him who produced, or is producing, the art.
3. The activity of art is based on the fact that a man, receiving through his sense of hearing or sight another man's expression of feeling, is capable of experiencing the emotion which moved the man who expressed it.

Oh that is just fantastic! Definately a 'look beyond what you see' kind of image. My personal favorite expression of art was from a poster that used to be in my stained glass/jewelry teacher's class room in High School..."I may not know much about art, but I know what I like!" And I LIKE this! Spectacualar and a favorite for sure!

You are so right, art or not art - is defined by the creator of it, and second by the observor of it, each will conclude with themselves what they are viewing. As for me, I view this as a nice work of abstract art, nice job!
