Description

Another pic from my recent New York trip. I wish our politicians and big businessmen would realize that "liberty" does not mean the freedom to lie, cheat and steal. The only way to get real change is to demand it from our elected officials. So let's get out there America and vote for honest public officials who will start to sove our problems instead of making the problems.

It's time to end the era of corruption in politics and business that is currently laying our country low. There are plenty of good men and women from both major parties running for office. However, and let me paraphrase John McCain, it is up to the public to make sure that our new Congress and president change Washington DC and not let Washington DC change them.

The first change should be is to take away most of the benefits that congress has, why should we pay for them living high on the hog. Let them pay for what we all have to pay for.

The phrase "It's time to end the era of corruption in politics and business" has been stated in almost every election, usually by both sides. So unfortunately, to assume this time will be any different requires a leap of faith beyond my grasp. It does sound nice, but that's all it's really intended to do. The only "change" I see here is recycling of the same old positions. But vote, hell yes! Nice shot of Lady Liberty, and thanks for not telling us who to vote for like far too many feel obligated to do so.

When innovation and technology is what's in intangibles and the more esoteric the more rewarding then the future is prescient. It is the flame of the torch.

@PhrankPower: I know how you feel. I have been waiting for the Chicago Cubs since 1953. However in politics, there can be a major groundswell for change that brings good results. In 1892 the Populist Party scared the hell out of both the Republicans and Democrats with their reform demands and success in the elections. Both the Republican and Democrats organized reform wings of their parties called "Progressives" with men like Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson bringing about 25 years worth of reforms, most of them very good for the USA. (There were a few busts too. Prohibition comes to mind.)The Great Depression also brought about major changes with a more mixed record than the Progressive era. The point is that in democracy the voting public can make a difference if they really want to. BTW: I agree 100% with stick.

An iconic image! Unfortunatly, much like politians the world over, power corrupts. The bigger the country, the more curruption or backhanders go on. Don't believe a word any of them say. They'll change their minds once in power. It's the way of the world. Rob P.S. A great picture, mate. sorry about the rant!

Yes the French provided Lady Liberty as a gift to the USA. Democracy and even Replublics demand reason and to many declare fear not only here in this country but all over the world. Knowingly or not they are tearing apart the democracies of the world using fear to slay reason. Reason and Communication are the bulwarks of democracy. When there is no way to communicate with those that represent you and you only recieve 30second sound bites its a clue that Democracy is in danger and so many are despondant because they do not trust the marketing speal and their voice is silent. People need to think about how to make sure their voices are heard and reject the thirty second sound bite crafted by polsters and the corporate world.

Great image! She does symbolize democracy and freedom. I was pleased to hear that people are registering in record numbers, perhaps democracy has awoken again. Regardless of who takes office next, they will have the biggest challenges ahead of them, that we have seen in generations. Thanks for keeping it all civil, something I have trouble doing.
