Description

We arrived at Pecos Pueblo about 3 in the afternoon. It was about a half mile hike from the parking lot to the ruins. It was a beautiful afternoon. There were clouds way off in the distance so we figured we were safe for the time being. Besides I thought they were moving away... (I am no longer allowed to think...hehe). I was enjoying the hike and the opportunity to take as many photos as I my heart desired :) By the time we'd reached the main ruins the skies had darkened considerably and I realized the storm was heading our way. My daughter was busy video-ing the lightening off in the distance, while I started taking photos of the main ruins. Then the lightening started striking much closer... I mean hair standing up and chills up and down your spine close... We started to feel a few drops of rain. Of course I hadn't taken all the pictures I wanted of the ruins (from every concievable angle)... but I had to quickly put away the camera. No sooner than the camera was stowed away in it's case the skies opened up! I mean it poured, the wind blew, it was hailing, there was thunder and lightening and the temperature dropped about 30 degrees. We started back to the parking lot... pfffft .... it was too far away. We found a little wooden "patio" type cover and took refuge for a bit. Unfortunately, it was in the low spot and began to fill with water. So we decided to make a run for the car. Hahaha. I discovered I'm still able to run... lol ... but man, I am out of shape. Only a minute or so running and I was absolutely drenched to the skin. I figured I couldn't get any wetter so I quit running--why torture myself further! Of course, my husband and daughter were laughing... I was worried about the lightening. (I'm a worrier). When we finally made it to the car I peeled off my shirt (at that point, I didn't care who could see me...lol) , grabbed the paper towels and started mopping up the water. (of course all the suitcases were back at the hotel, because we had decided to stay there for a couple of nights). I stole my husbands jacket he had left in the car to wear as a shirt. But I figured I'd better leave on the wet jeans... I'd never get them back on again and there was NO way I was walking bare-butted into the hotel lobby! LOL. About then my husband, who went to the visitor center, returned... looked at me and said, "You have hail in your hair." and started picking it out.. LMAO. The 90 minute drive back to the hotel was cold and uncomfortable. It had hailed so much the roads were white, and it looked like it had snowed. .....and that's the story of the day we went to Pecos Pueblo. A good memory. Thanks for stopping by, taking time to look, read and comment. My previous upload, "Pecos Pueblo". Have a great day! Hugs, ~Melinda~

It is an experience like that that makes an adventure out of an outting. I love an adventure. This shot was taken at the right time for many reasons but I think mainly because the sky supports the ruins so well. Looking at full size, it is obvious that Mother Nature is working slowly at reclaiming the ruins and doing it beuatifully and gracefully. Stunning shot.

Exemplary POV and mood lighting effects in this closeup shot of the ruins contrasted against the ominous skies, Melinda! I'm relieved that you and yours weren't struck by lightning during this venture. And, finally, I'm glad you're not shy....I would love to see pictures of you without your shirt.

I hesitate to do any running while it is raining.if you walk fast, you will get wet but at least you will not have any pain from slipping and falling down excellent capturee and I would have loved this place
