Description

Apophysis 208b Some say all little boys like Dinosaurs, when I was a boy I didnt just know Dinosaurs I knew most of prehistoric plant and animal life! I was obssesed with collecting fossils(one of the reasons I love spirals is because of Amonites!) I always thought I was going to find a dinosaur..well I never did(when I was young). When I got older I moved to an area that wasnt known for its fossils and Id also given up the obsession of collecting them. But one day someone told me about an unusual mud spring near where I lived...what was unusual about it was that it came from very deep and went through a layer of Jurrassic clay, this meant it would push up small fossils from very deep below. When I visited it it was very hard to find them because of the thick mud, but luckily there was a stream that passed by that you could clean them in...it all felt so nostalgic. I then had the idea that if I get in the stream much further down, and put my wellies on, I might be able to find cleaned fossils that had been pushed down it! Remembering that I hadnt hunted for fossils for about 20 years I donned my wellington boots! Lo and behold in the first 10 meters I saw what I knew was dinosaur bones in the bottom of the stream, large vertebrae...I followed them as they snaked into the sides, I then spent days redirecting the stream and digging out hundreds of bones...I never found the skull unfortunately, but I shall never forget the surprise that I had, that re-kindled my past hopes! The dinosaur turned out to be a Pliesiosaur, like a Loch Ness monster type of creature! I now have it in my shed, but I have promised it to a local museum! :D

Oh! This is gorgeous! I love the colors. Congratulations on your find. I love fossils too and I collect minerals. I have a very large collection of minerals and a few fossils. I have never found anything as fantastic as yours though.

Nick, This is a beautiful flame, but I am more impressed with your telling of your wonderful adventure! That is so amazing! I can just see you wading around in your boots finding fossils! ;) Leann
