Description

The Congregation of the Sisters of Holy-Anne showed her conviction in the educational value of a museum by setting up its first Community museum in 1918. Established with the Convent Holy-Anne, 1300, rue Saint-Joseph, in Lachine, it included/understood documents of Community and/or contemporary history and reviews of time. At this time, works and the objects were presented in the various corridors of the institution. In 1942, the museum took a new turning while becoming a museum of natural science. During 30 years, it will hold a teaching role of foreground, it will accomodate the classes of natural science until 1972. Starting from this date, the years to come will be devoted to the inventory of the historical objects, research and documentation, thus preparing the return to its historical vocation first. The museum takes again life and again opens its doors with the same Convent Holy-Anne in 1979, by a permanent exposure, in only one room, to which will be added, year by year, of the temporary exposures sets of themes. In 1990, at the time of the centenary of the death of the Founder, Mother Marie-Anne Blondin, a Center of interpretation, called Estherama, the day at the Head office of the Sisters of Holy-Anne with 1950, rue Provost sees, in Lachine. This Center aims to make known the life of Mother Marie-Anne, her childhood to its death, and the apostolic expansion of its community. In 1992, is born also the museum Marie-Anne-Cableway, located him at 1950, rue Provost. It illustrates the course of life of the Founder (since the foundation with Vaudreuil, until the installation of the young community to the Convent of Lachine) and her crowning. Rome proclaims Mère “Worthy” Marie-Anne in 1991. This museum, rich person of direction, join together objects having belonged to the Founder and of the pilot objects of the first decades of the Congregation. In 2005, the general Administration of the Sisters of Holy-Anne, after a study undertaken by specialists in museology and architecture, forms the project to gather in only one place, the two museums and the Center of interpretation. This new whole with two shutters - a service of promotion and animation on the life and works of the Founder and a museum of history - will take the name of Historical centre of the Sisters of Holy-Anne. It will be established inside the building of the Convent Holy-Anne de Lachine. This building of great financial asset, 1862-1864, is located on the edges of the channel of Lachine, in the tourist tour of the Old Lachine.
