The bird was in flight. My daughter and her friend were feeding the birds chips from the boat. The gull hovered over them and would swoop down to grab the morsels about 1 foot from their hand. A couple actually took it from their hand but I wasn't quick enough to capture it.

Amazing close-up, you were lucky to be able to shoot this close, but it is also a bit frightening , I just remembered one of Hitchcock's films featuring those thousands of seagulls attacking people when I first opened your image!
