California foothills are harsh territory. The hot, burning sun beats down on wide exposed grassy land and by mid-summer the green has turned to gold giving them a certain brittle feeling. Rain is not something you see much of in the summer but in winter and early spring, the vales are awash in rushing streams that are short-lived but make up for it in exuberance while them remain. This is a fabulous shot that holds all of this tale in the view.

beautifully captured reminds me of when i used to drive up to Yosemite with my Father (yikes ...it gets pretty curvy on the way up once was reading and got carsick lol...rather look at the view next time)
