Description

These little sprouts are centimeters, not meters, tall. But someday maybe one of them will be a full-sized redwood. We'll have to take a look in 2,000 years to see how they're doing. The Unique Sequoia Sempervirens page has this to say about the potential size of these sprouts: "The coast redwoods are the tallest living species on Earth. Often they can reach heights of 300-350 feet and diameters of 16-18 feet. More than a dozen trees exceeding 360 feet in height are now growing along the California coast. Redwoods are also renowned for their extremely high volume of standing biomass, in some stands exceeding 3,500 metric tons/hectacre." Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

It's hard to believe something that small can grow as large as they do ... Awesome capture ... The sprouts have interesting leaves.

2000 years? Very funny. Let's hope they are left alone that long. Great shot, Dennis. Doesn't look like a tree. Reminds me of a fern of some kind.

It's hard to appreciate foliage that is 300 feet from your eyes. It's nice to be able to examine it closely in the form of sprouts and saplings, so you can really appreciate how lovely it is. :) Thanks!
