Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

No matter what we come up with to foil the animal and bird kingdom, they eventually find a way around it. And they call animals, 'dumb.' Don't think so...lol

At Coronado ASW school the porch outside the cafeteria had concrete rattle snakes and in Thontosassa concrete owls were tried on the shuffle board court. Fear is the tool of the absolutist.

No matter what man comes up with, the birds seem to adapt rather well, I have seen a nest built on top of these spikes, providing a steady surface for the interwoven twigs. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!

They seem to be sound asleep. Interesting capture. Aloha

I feel badly for the birds. Its not like they have a lot of choice on where to go...We keep taking more and more of their space where food is plenty and life once was good...we toss them food and ask them to perform for us and then when we feel we've had enough and they are totally dependent on our way of life to sustain theirs, we turn into the landlords from hell. LOL I see that the birds pay attention about as well as children listen to their elders. :-)

Interestingly!

There's more than one way to outmanoever us silly humans! Great shot : )

Kind of looks like a sunrise scupture....I've seen these too, seems kind of mean to me! Great capture!

Reminds me of the spiked hair I see on the pates of punk rockers. I think this is a sharp idea; the point being there are plenty of other places for the birds to roost. Anyway, a unique capture, M!

Gorgeous and funny shot...I love the dubious success of those anti-perch spikes. They cropped up all over Chicago before I left, but they only stopped a FEW pigeons from roosting. The rest just found really intriguing ways to both roost AND do pigeon yoga. Great image, it provides a wonderful commentary, and it makes me smile. Great work.

The lighthouse at Mukilteo has a thin wire all around the railing so the birds can't perch there. It seems to work!

Great capture Marilyn!!!

I remember seeing the spikes as we walked along the pier, we humans seem to think these birds won't perch near them but I think the birds outsmarted us this time....
