Description

This fragile skeleton, also known as a test, was once alive. A close relative of the sea urchin; live sand dollars have marooned color shells covered in tiny movable spines. I've never found an intact sand dollar except in shell stores on the beach. By the time these wash up on land most are broken by waves and left in pieces sometimes no bigger than grains of sand. Photo taken last month on Pensacola beach. An over looked photo that Marshall rescued and finished for me. Thanks for stopping by. Make it a great day!

When I lived in Galveston, I found whole ones - not often but every few weeks. It is a real prize when that happens and good luck is on your shoulder until it accidently breaks... :-) This is a stellar shot of the wonderful details.
