Description

This is at Cypress Lawn in Everett. Kondrad posted a great daytime shot of this a couple of weeks ago, which you can see here, and it reminded me that I've been wanting to go out there! So last weekend when we went out to Evergreen, we stopped at Cypress Lawn on the way home. By the time we got there the sun was beginning to go down. You would think it would be easy to find some information about this fascinating piece of "space-age" architecture on the internet. It's so distinctive! But no ... I could find photographs aplenty, but nothing else. I would love to be able to tell you when it was installed. My guess would be the early 60s, but it's just a guess. (The Space Needle was completed in 1962, and there are some pretty unavoidable comparisons that can be made here!) Another one for the "Locally Exotic" theme!

I have one word to say -- Jetsons! Yes, it seems very 60s to me too. Is that a bit of stained glass I see at the bottom in the middle of the supports? Great shot!

It is quite an amazing piece, and it's beautiful. Now that you mentioned the 60's, though, it reminds me of one of those old clocks with the space agey hands!!

What a fantastic image this is, I guess this would have been very retro in the early sixties, a step out of the ordinary. I must say it looks very dramatic silhouetted against the sky like this. I am not into a lot of modern art, but this has a certain appeal to it. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
