For my Mom, Kathy Huesman, 1929 to 2002
Six years ago you went away
And I thought I'd surely die...
I wouldn't see your smile no more
Or hear your gentle sigh.
My life has really changed so much
Since that day you went away....
I live with such an emptiness
That nothing fills today.
I miss the talks we used to have
I miss the laughter too....
I can't begin to tell you Mom
How much I miss you now.
They say time heals a broken heart
But I don't think that's so....
Because I hurt as much today
As the day you went away.
I always thought you'd never go
That God would let you stay...
But now I see that I was wrong
Cause' you had to go away.
I never got to say goodbye
And maybe that's why it's so hard...
I miss you Mom with all my heart
And love you even more.

sometimes it's better if you're not there when they go - you remember so much of that time period more than all the others. I had my right ear on my Mom's chest and heard her last two heartbeats.

Wonderful poem and tribute to your Mother, Marcy. I wasn't at my fathers side when he passed, but I was the last one in the family to see him the night before. I got to say goodbye at least. Doctors predicted that next day would be his last, since he refused mechanical help. Anyway, hope all's is well in Ohio. Hugs from Dave :^)
