Description

Couple of weeks ago I was in the heart of the farmland in Illinois....not far from me was the Amish community....but wouldn't you know the day I wandered around it rained.... I have been on the fence about this pic.....this buggy and I were the only ones on this country road....I had to take this pic from the car it was raining too hard to take camera out of the car....the buggy was coming down the road at a pretty good lick....I quick snapped this pic. Looking at it tonight I decided to post it and see what others would think.... I loved the site of it coming down the road....the sound of clop clop clop the squeak of the buggy...things you can't capture in a photo.... but looking at it more I feel I might have caught some things....when you look at the horse's breath can you feel the nip in the air?....when you see the rain against the buggy can you feel the damp?...when you look at his hooves can you tell how quickly he was moving? or can you hear the clop clop clop?..... the other interesting thing to me is catching Little of the Amish farm in back ground.....notice there are no electric wires going to the farm...so beautiful their farms and land are unmarred by modern society.... So I kept the pic....and would love to hear your thoughts on it......Thanks....PEACE.....G Thank you all so much for the great response to the stained glass...so glad you enjoy it as I do!...gotta love it!

Being from Ohio originally seeing this reminds me of back then when I was young and saw these on the country roads in Bainbridge. Just looking at it I can hear the echo of the hooves and the heavy snort or two from the horse. The amish are a very mis-understood folk. Many think it's the tech they don't like. I can tell you that isn't it. Their Men look at the big john dears and marvel at it power and ability. which oddly also reminds them of thier faith. That tech and vanity are things that lead to tempatation and away from the simple life of serving god. I remember once a older amish fellow had a stroke and although he recovered he was not full able to tend his field. He had no sons and his dautghers were yet unmarried. his farm would have failed. The community elders, all older amish men decided that this fellow should have a tractor with the nessisary accesories to use. I recall that the man at first declined but when the elders explained why they decided that way so he could continue till one of his girls married and her husband could then take over the farm and the tractor would be sold. I have always admired the amish for thier brand of faith. It is a hard bit to fully grasp but I think they are folks that have a real good bead on the world. Share, be kind and honest, and stay as far away from evil as far as possible, and work very very hard and remain humble. Sadly for me, I like the computer and tech to much, but I see thier faith thru all the garb and dogma and riticule, and find it a good thing. I tend to think they have it a little more right about the nature of the universe. Thanks for this, it brought back good memories, even if was raining in the shot.

Yes, you've captured a wonderful shot here. And shooting in the rain, if you can keep your camera dry, yields special effects that you've traced very well in your commentary. The last time I saw an Amish horse and buggy was 2-3 years ago in farm country of southwestern Kentucky. These horses will do a 20 mile roundtrip without trouble. They are fitted with shock absorbing pads between their hooves and horse shoes to enable them to trot on black top roads without sustaining lower leg injuries. Very, very nice image! Bill

a very fine shot...I can hear the hoves and see the breath...and still its somewaht spooky to me as one can only see the horses reflection in the windows of the carriage. The carriage itself is a somewhat remarkable combination of old and new with the lights and the mirror. I do admire those amish people for their strong faith and will and for keeping up the life like they do.

This is a marvellous pic, and your narrative adds so much to it as well! Fascinating to read these comments, and they've said it all really. Superb!

You nailed it! I feel it! The air is so clean, a little chilly too, and moist. I like that the reflection of the horse is located in the window where you might normally expect to see the driver. But the driver remains a mystery, the buggy seems empty, evidenced by the straight shot through to the rear window! AWESOME!! Where is he? We have the wondrous mystery of the Amish lifestyle making a statement about ITSELF. This is so cool!!!!!! Yes I'm ranting. You caught me on a good night - WOOOOO-HOOO! Way to go darlin! What a safari!
