Description

For some reason I felt the urge to post something from France today so had a little sift through some of those already edited (it's been a long day) and settled on giving this one a little colour pop to add a little interest (hopefully!). Nothing particularly special about this one, and definitely nothing original in the technique, but one of the best from our short time there. The shot was taken mid morning in the collosseum in Nimes, southern France. I'd visited earlier that week with my brother on a little excursion but the queues mid afternoon were just a little too insane to tackle, hence our return a few days later 'bright' and early.. It's one of those places which is very much geared to a tourist experience - you hand in your bag, specify a language, and walk round in silence as you try to make out the crackly commentary on the provided handset, reminiscent of an 80's mobile phone... the place was fascinating even though I soon lost patience with the commentary and just enjoyed wandering about instead. I remember trying to imagine what I'd be feeling like if I was in these tunnels about to do battle (perhaps for the ultimate time) for the entertainment of the baying crowds. Unable to think for the adrenaline I'd imagine! If you consider that the closest modern day equivalent capable of drawing large crowds is probably championship boxing, then I guess maybe we should be thankful that death is no longer a form of entertainment to be flamboyantly celebrated in such a way... or have we become too much in denial of our raw animalistic urges?..hrrmmm *ponders* ... Well, that's enough from me, have a great evening! Adam

My kind of liking. Love b&w shots with only a red color stays. Excelent compo with a curve what ends in the opening. Longer I looking this capture more I like to see something rushing out of the tunnel.

What a great shot, excellent POV. Historic tourist places do their job well. Isn't it strange that we do not usually wander back in our mind as the person watching (as in the crowd) but the ones who are about to come to some fearful and gruesome end lol. Thought provoking !

Nice shot, the classic colour pop lends itself very well to this piece, as it helps emphasise the curvature of this fine old piece of architecture, well done mate! PS Can I zoom for crud?..LOL!

Last year I had read a bit about what could be found from the Romans that existed in Southern France and was quite surprised as I did not know they had built there to that extent. Also the Iberians and Celts(?) I believe left a legacy that still can be found. Wonderful picture. I remeber first seeing the floor of an arena and being surprised at how close the public sat.
