Description

The day is clear and cloudless, but the faint waft of thickening fog speaks of different temperaments between air and water. As on every other day like this, the river exhales a fine whisper of fogs and diaphanous mists. The sun, close to its zenith, catches these thin wisps of vapor and the golden light of mid-day takes on a more silver-tinged hue. The fog—for as thin and insubstantial as it may be—seems to cleanse the world of unnecessary distraction. Your view is narrowed, not in perspective, but in other ways that are harder to define. Jarring color fade, and this shift to monochrome seems to heighten sound It is warm, and the city—for all of its mid-day activity—is strangely quiet. You hear trams below, one of them...two...but no more than that. Over your shoulder, in some rearward distance, a dog barks as if in answer to the scolding woman's voice you can scarcely make out, and beside you, friends speak, quietly. As on every other day like this, the river exhales a fine whisper of fogs and vague, shifting mists. You remember this, not because you watched Prague vanish like a modest woman behind her veil, but because with the fog's removal of clarity and color, your senses were narrowed to what you could hear, and it is the sound of your friends that you remember most vividly. **** As always, thank you for viewing, commenting, and reading. Hopefully you're having a great weekend.

This slightly solarised image does indeed capture the essence of the title and the text. Its well taken and described as always. Dave

An accurate description, both in image and words, of a type of mood I like to be in.

Chip, I think this is a successful presentation. The very contrasty scene helped to hide the details of ordinary and keep the viewer focused on the light, water, and layers. This image has a nostalgic quality of lost paradise. Regards, Igor.

Yes, you have captured and described fog beautifully. It does have a muted sound. Whenever there is a mist up here in the mountains, it is as if an artist painted a gausian blur over everything ... fog gives us whispers ... snow give us silence. CC

Oh, this is so familiar; fog is part of life here and you describe it perfectly, brilliantly. It does have it own sound, gives the world a soft, cloudy, pillowy feel.

Beautiful contrasts you have achieved with B/W. The fog echoes a haunting stillness.

"...you watched Prague vanish like a modest woman behind her veil..." OMG, Chip, you conjurer, why did you this to me? As always when reding your gems of stories, I hatdly know what to say... Yes, I know, I've felt it, have seen it when the sun enchants the 'Förde' and subsequently casts a spell on everyone watching the magic. You know, it's about your work that I'm searching the web for aan affordable travel to Prague...

There is something extremely nostalgic and lonely in this capture, like the memory of something from a long time ago, blurred by the fog of present and the wish of something that isn't no more or too far away to be reached... Very strong and touching capture.
